When I discovered that Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal were not only reunited as Tears For Fears but performing in New York on August 19th, I was surprised that it hadn't been a bigger news item because, really, we owe them that. First, amid an 80s era storm of cringingly earnest bands and acts destined to become novelties ,they are among the few who produced a staggering catalog of hits and lesser known treasures that feel just as honest and enjoyable today as they did the first time we heard them. Although I'm certain they've endured their share of corporate campaigning, they also deserve respect for being among those who are also just about their music, without accompanying clothing lines, a signature fragrance, 900 numbers (remember those?) matching glammy outfits or exhausting scandals. They were never dated by these things and the lack of all that gave their lyrics room to breathe and grow with us. There are a few tickets that are still available for what is sure to be an incredible performance. You can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster here. And no one sings "Mad World" like they do. We. Can't. Wait.
*You can also catch Curt Smith on an upcoming episode of USA Network's thoroughly enjoyable program "Psych" (Catch part 1 of our interview with Psych star James Roday here)
** GoMet members can add the Hammerstein Ballroom location to their itineraries. You can also view the location on this map.
